The institute is situated at a rural place near Kherajkhat H. S. School, in the village of Gosaibari, under the revenue circle of Narayanpur and about 8.5 KM from Narayanpur Town, Assam and about 10 KM from Bihpuria, Assam. Geographically these three locations form a triangle when visualized by ariel connection. It has 30 bighas of land and the institute building is being developed by APWD, Govt. of Assam with the financial grant from the Central and State government.
The institution is well connected by NH37 that passes through Narayanpur Town to Bandardowa to North Lakhimpur Town of Assam. By road Narayanpur is 324 KM from Guwahati, Assam. By train one can reach this institute from the nearby Tatibahar railway station or from Harmati Railway Station, both about 6 KM away from the campus. By air it is 50 KM away from the Lilabari Airport at Lakhimpur Town.
The geographic features of these area is extremely important as it is located at the foothills of Himalayan ranges of Arunachal Pradesh, only about 10 KM radially away from the site. Practically the whole area can be considered as an ecotone transforming hilly ecology to plains ecological conditions. Abundant greenery, heavy rainfall and inundation of cultivation fields every year is a common features of this area. Resource full in fertile land and vegetation, the area needs boost in science and technology for socio-economic transformation. Academics: Lakhimpur polytechnic is offering 3 years diploma in Chemical, Civil and Mechanical Engineering, each having an intake capacity of 60 per year. The institute is approved by AICTE, New Delhi and affiliated to SCTE, Assam. The courses are of 6 semester duration and students are to appear at semester end examinations conducted by the SCTE, Assam. The academic calendar is prepared by the SCTE and followed by all the 21 polytechnics of Assam. This polytechnic is established this year only and it has enrolled 170 students so far in all the 3 branches of engineering that it offers. After 3rd counselling during 3rd week of August, 2017, it is hoped to be filled up 100% i.e. 180 in total.
